At mayamada, we passionately believe in the power of creativity to make the world a more productive, engaging, and fun place to be. That belief was the motivation behind our #BeCreative campaign that launched this month.
The aim of the campaign is to inspire and encourage creativity among young people while at the same time contributing to the efforts of charities already making a difference to their lives. There isn’t enough encouragement for creative thinking for school-aged children and this something we want to change!
On Tuesday 15th of December, The Canvas Cafe was host to the launch of the #BeCreative campaign. The event brought together two of our charity partners, MyBnk and Aid For Japan, as well as artists and creative young people.
The Canvas Cafe is a great space in Shoreditch where customers are encouraged to literally write their thoughts on the walls – the perfect place for the campaign to get started!
After food and Christmas-y treats, we got down to business…in keeping with the spirit of the campaign we got people to share their creative talents and thoughts on creativity.
We were joined by our charity partners. Sharan and Declan from MyBnk who support young people by providing them with essential financial education as well as other creative enterprise education.
Akemi and Angela from Aid For Japan were also a big part of the event. They are a charity focused on supporting children who have become orphans due to the earthquake and tsunami in Japan during 2011.
We’ve already worked with both charities over the past year and admire the work they do to make a difference to young lives.
We were able to get our #BeCreative campaign off to a great start with the help of H, whose company InnerI provides educational and motivational workshops. H also works with young people in creative fields. Two of them, Luke and Zahrah, gave brilliant spoken word performance during the evening.
The theme for the start campaign came as a question: what does creativity mean to you?
In the months leading up to this month’s event, we gathered artwork from 24 professional and aspiring artists into a single notebook.
Each answering that same question and each page in the book expresses an artist’s view of creativity and the quality and variety of work has blown us away.
The collection shows in a very visual way that creativity can come from a variety of sources and take a variety of forms. Here are just some of the examples:
The book was raffled at the end of the evening and after a few round of drawing and a very kind donation from Declan, it found it’s way to the eventual winner Zahrah.
It was a great start to the campaign and we even got to talk about it on London Live the day before! Expect to see more from the campaign in the new year.
You can support by making a donation to the charities or sharing your own creative work with us on Twitter or Instagram. Until then..#BeCreative!
