We’ve had a great response to the Samurai Chef comic since we released it last year. After hitting our Kickstarter target to get the book printed, the amount of positive feedback has been so appreciated. It even got a 4 out of 5 star review in Neo Magazine!
Cosplayers: What Does Creativity Mean To You?
We’ve enjoyed talking to different artistic professionals about creativity in our new blog series. So far we’ve spoken to illustrators and musicians to get a better idea of what makes them tick creatively.

mayamada @ StreetFest 2015
Earlier this month we made our third appearance at StreetFest at their new Tobacco Dock home. After our first appearance in a while last year, we couldn’t wait to collaborate with the StreetFest team and have some fun (and more food).
We set up in the market area with our range of anime inspired clothing and comics. We also introduced our Selfie Competition where you had to be the first to take a selfie with six of our characters to win a t-shirt or snapback…which is just what our winner Tegan did. Congratulations!
Along with us were a bunch of great brands including High Spirit Bags, 4649 Clothing, Flye Clothing, See:Saw Clothing and our neighbours for the day Kam Creates and Kelleys Deli.
We also got a chance to discover new brands on the day including Ricalyce, a brand making quality snapback caps.
The best thing about StreetFest is al the creativity that goes on through out the day. From musicians to skateboarders to the graffiti artists working on brilliant pieces over the day.
And food..did we mentioned the food?
We’re already excited to return to Tobacco Dock for next year’s event. Stay tuned…
Tony Goff @ Phoenix Bar
Back in the Spring we had the pleasure of seeing Tony Goff on the last leg of his tour. It’s a tour that’s taken him across England and ended with one last gig in his home town of Hugh Wycombe with art collective StreetartDrop.
We first met Tony in 2013 and he’s continued to work tirelessly on his music and has managed to tour abroad in Denmark and even feature on BBC radio. Goes to show that you can make great things happen when you work at them.
It was a great night and amazing to see the local support Tony had from family, friends and fans. Take a look a the video highlights from the night.
Tony was also joined on stage by Federal Unicorn, an indie rock band from Denmark. Both bands were on tour together and sounded great.
Check out Tony’s latest video for his single Signs and keep a close eye on him…we’re excited to see where he goes next!
GamePad! Gaming + Music Event Recap
It’s been a long while since the last mayamada event so we couldn’t wait to get our latest event, GamePad!, up and running.
Things got off to a great start as the crowd rolled into the Petit Miracle Hub in West 12 Shopping Centre…free cupcakes might have had something to do with that!
It was a cosplay takeover as Animeleague made a big showing at GamePad! and the building was packed full of amazing characters.
There were enough cosplayers to hold our own cosplay contest, and we did just that with tickets to London Anime & Gaming Con up for grabs.
We had cosplayers from Marvel, Pokemon and Dragonball universes. After the voting was done, Tabitha (aka Demorafairy Cosplay) was crowned the winner with her Espeon cosplay.
A big part of GamePad! is the games and we had three screens running Mario Kart, House of the Dead and Super Smash Bros throughout the day.
Special guest Shaodow came, saw and conquered as he took out the competition and team mayamada to win the Super Smash Bros tournament. As well as Samurai Chef chocolate and a logo snapback cap, he also won tickets to StreetFest 2015!
It wasn’t just video games, no-tech gaming was just as fun with things getting very competitive on giant Jenga.
It was a great day and this was just the start…GamePad! will be back in June so stay tuned to find out the date of the next mayamada gaming and music event.
MCM Expo Birmingham
Last month we took a trip up north (well, north-ish) for our first visit to the MCM Expo at the NEC Exhibition Centre in Birmingham. After a great time at London Anime & Gaming Con, we were excited to get our second convention of the year off and running.
We set up in the Comic Village and manage to cover our table with regular and limited edition of the Samurai Chef manga as well as our new Samurai Chef chocolate bars.
It’s been a while since we’ve been to an MCM event, but we were quickly up to speed once we got our bearings.
There is so much to see at MCM. We only got to see a fraction of it from our stall, but we were treated to Robot Wars matches going on just behind the Comic Village – we loved watching that show!
We also got to meet up with some great exhibitors including Canime, Helenasia and Choizilla, who had one of the best presented tables in the Comic Village and a cool outfit too.
As always it’s about the cosplay and we saw a tons of great outfits over the two days of MCM Expo.
Even the security guards were getting into it…
So that’s two events down and many more to go in 2015. Not only conventions like Hyper Japan and London Comic Con, but we’ll also have our very own mayamada events starting with GamePad! in April.
Stay tuned to find out where to catch us after that one…
Easter Design Competition Entries
Our Easter design competition came to a close last week and the entries are in. We’ve had some cool artwork from school students showing their creativity for the Easter season.
We have short listed some of best entries and will be giving a bar of chocolate to everyone to make it to the list. Congratulations! That’s a choice of Crunchy Noodle, Cherry Blossom or Green Tea chocolate to chomp down on this month.
This week we’ll also be revealing the winning entry and that person will have the chance to be turned into a character that will appear in a future mayamada comic.
Stay tuned…
GamePad! Gaming + Music Event

Join us from 3pm at the Petit Miracle Hub for a day of gaming, music and our popup shop featuring the full range of mayamada anime clothing and comics. All this under one roof for a FREE one day event!

Easter Chocolate Design Competition
Easter is on its way and that means chocolate….lots and lots of chocolate. We’re calling on you to get your creative hats for a brand new, chocolate covered design competition.
Earlier in the year we teamed up with chocolate makers Cybercandy to launch a range of Samurai Chef chocolate bars. Now you have the chance to design your own packaging using your choice of mayamada character.
All you have to do is design your own label using at least one mayamada character for one of the three flavours; Crunchy Noodle, Cherry Blossom or Green Tea.
Check out the full competition details and stay tuned to our blog to see the entries. We can’t wait to see what you come up with!
