How we work

We’re a mission-driven agency with a specific focus. Here’s what that means in practice.

✓  What we do

  • Skills development — storytelling, manga, and creative skills workshops and training programmes
  • Creative events — game jams, community gatherings, and inclusive live experiences
  • Consultancy — strategic advice on narrative development and creative team structures
  • Manga commissions — custom manga creation aligned with our storytelling universe and values
  • Youth programmes — educational workshops and experiences that empower young people in their creative journeys
  • Content creation — livestreams, social content, and event highlights that showcase the creative community

✗  What we don’t do

  • General design services — ad hoc logo design, branding packages, or marketing materials unrelated to storytelling or community
  • Ad hoc content production — one-off photography, video, or general content creation outside our programmes
  • Web or app development — websites, digital products, or technical builds outside our specific offerings
  • Traditional advertising — promotional campaigns or marketing materials that don’t connect to our mission

Not sure if your project is a fit? Just ask — we’re happy to point you in the right direction.

Frequently Asked Questions

▼  What does mayamada do?

We’re a Black-led, mission-driven creative studio based in London. We work across original manga and storytelling, live events, digital content, diversity-in-gaming, creative workshops and talks, white-label creative services, and early-careers programmes. Everything we do connects back to one mission: equipping generations to thrive on the creative journey.

▼  Who do you typically work with?

Schools, youth organisations, corporates, non-profits, event organisers, brands with DEI goals, and organisations that want to reach diverse communities in authentic ways. If your brief has creativity, community, or storytelling at its heart, we’re likely a good fit.

▼  I’m not sure which service is right for us, can you help?

Absolutely. Use the enquiry form to tell us a little about what you’re trying to achieve and we’ll point you in the right direction. You don’t need to have it figured out before you reach out.

▼  I’m a parent or teacher — how can mayamada support a young person I know?

We run workshops and talks from upper primary through to university level, and the Showrunners Programme for those ready to enter the creative industries. Our podcast and livestreams offer learning and insights from working creatives, we show up at events across the year, and our Discord is open to anyone aged 13 and over.

▼  Do you offer a free initial consultation?

Yes. Our first conversation is always about understanding your goals, so no obligation and no pitch.

▼  Can you work with organisations on smaller budgets?

Yes. Some programmes including Showrunners Projects are free to access. For paid services, we’re always transparent about costs.

▼  Do you work with organisations outside the UK?

Primarily UK-based, but open to international conversations particularly for digital projects, podcast production, and consultancy.

▼  What kinds of projects do you not take on?

We don’t offer general graphic design, ad hoc photography or video production, or web development unconnected to our programmes. We won’t take on projects that contradict our values around diversity, inclusion, and positive impact.

▼  Can we commission work that isn’t related to storytelling or manga?

Our specialism is storytelling, visual narrative, and creative development. If a project sits outside that, we’ll tell you honestly and point you towards someone better placed to help.

▼  What’s the best way to start working with mayamada?

Fill in the enquiry form with a brief outline of what you have in mind. We’ll come back to you within 2 working days to set up an initial conversation.
